About Patient Forward

Patient Forward (PF) is a national advocacy and strategy organization working to eliminate barriers to later abortion care and ensure that everyone can access the healthcare they need, when they need it. We educate the public about complex and adverse pregnancy outcomes, elevate patient experiences, and advance policies that support bodily autonomy and access to care without arbitrary time limits.

As we enter an exciting period of organizational growth and rebranding, we are seeking a graphic design and content creation consultant to help strengthen and evolve our visual communications.

Opportunity

Patient Forward seeks a creative and detail-oriented graphic design consultant to support a wide range of communications and advocacy needs.

The ideal consultant will have a strong eye for design, experience translating complex information into visually engaging materials, and the ability to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a partner who can help us maintain consistency during a brand transition while also contributing creative ideas that strengthen our visual identity.

Patient Forward is in the process of rebranding and redesigning our website with an outside firm. The consultant will help implement the new brand and visual system by redesigning our existing materials and developing new materials and social media graphics under the brand guidelines.

Scope of Work

The consultant will work closely with Patient Forward staff to support:

Reports, Fact Sheets, and Educational Materials

  • Format and design materials such as fact sheets, toolkits, issue briefs, reports, and educational resources based on Patient Forward’s brand guidelines and templates, where applicable

  • Create charts, infographics, and data visualizations that translate complex research and policy information into accessible, engaging content

  • Ensure materials are visually appealing and aligned with Patient Forward's brand, voice, and approach to external materials

Presentations

  • Design and format presentations for funders, partners, conferences, trainings, and public education efforts based on Patient Forward’s brand guidelines and templates, where applicable

Fundraising and Development Communications

  • Partner with the Director of Development to create donor-facing materials that communicate Patient Forward's impact and advance fundraising goals

  • Design visually engaging assets for fundraising campaigns including Giving Tuesday, year-end appeals, impact report, donor outreach, and stewardship efforts

  • Design fundraising communications, including direct mail pieces, email graphics, event materials

  • Design branded merchandise and materials for sale on Patient Forward’s online store

Brand Implementation and Creative Support

  • Support implementation of Patient Forward's evolving visual identity and upcoming rebrand

  • Translate legacy materials into new brand system

  • Provide creative guidance and input during a period of organizational transition and growth

  • Organize and maintain brand materials and creative assets across platforms including Google Workspace, Canva, the Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

Social Media Graphics

  • Design engaging graphics for Instagram, Bluesky, and other digital platforms

  • Create templates that can be adapted for recurring content series and campaigns

  • Translate policy, research, and narrative content into accessible visual formats

  • Develop accessible graphics optimized for both audience engagement and educational impact

Desired Qualifications

We are seeking a consultant who brings:

  • Exceptional visual design skills and a strong portfolio showcasing a strong eye for layout and content accessibility.

  • Experience designing for advocacy, nonprofit, healthcare, public education, or social impact organizations

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)

  • Strong Canva skills, including the ability to create editable templates for use by other staff

  • Experience designing social media content, reports, fact sheets, newsletters, and supporting presentations

  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling visuals

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accessibility

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to accept feedback

  • A demonstrated history of joyful collaboration with small, mission-driven teams

  • The ability to move seamlessly between strategic design thinking and rapid-turnaround production work

  • Enthusiasm for helping shape and strengthen Patient Forward's visual presence during a period of growth

  • Genuine commitment to expanding the public’s understanding of abortion care later in pregnancy

Deliverables and Engagement Structure

We anticipate ongoing design support on a retainer or hourly basis. Work may include both planned projects and occasional rapid-response requests.

Patient Forward uses Monday.com as its primary project management platform. The consultant will be expected to use Monday.com to track assignments, communicate progress, manage deadlines, and collaborate with staff across multiple projects and workstreams.

We expect the consultant to:

  • Deliver final files in editable formats

  • Maintain organized design files and templates

  • Meet agreed-upon timelines and deadlines

  • Participate in regular planning and review meetings

  • Receive and integrate feedback from our small, collaborative team
